Jefferson County Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Joey Byrd as principal of Maury Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year.

Jefferson County Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Joey Byrd as principal of Maury Middle School for the 2026–2027 school year. Dr. Byrd brings a strong background in instructional leadership and a deep commitment to student success, having served as assistant principal at Rush Strong School since 2021, where she has played a key role in strengthening school culture, supporting teachers, and leading data-driven improvement efforts.

Dr. Byrd holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Administrative Leadership from Carson-Newman University and brings over a decade of classroom experience, including ten years as a middle grades English language arts teacher. Her career has been marked by a focus on building strong relationships, supporting effective instruction, and creating systems that promote continuous growth for both students and staff.

Known for her servant leadership approach, Dr. Byrd emphasizes collaboration, clear communication, and high expectations while ensuring students feel supported and connected. She looks forward to this next opportunity to lead Maury Middle School and to continue building positive partnerships with students, staff, families, and the community.
